China to Australia shipping cost per kg in 2026: reference prices by weight

China-direct parcels to Australia are priced per kilogram plus a per-parcel fee, so a 0.2 kg parcel costs about AUD 7 and a 5 kg parcel about AUD 51. Sydney local delivery is cheaper from roughly 0.4 kg up. Here are the reference prices by weight, what they include, and the size limits.

China to Australia shipping cost per kg in 2026: reference prices by weight

How is China to Australia shipping priced?

A China-direct parcel to Australia is billed in two parts: a freight rate per kilogram, and a per-parcel registration fee that steps up with the weight band. On the September 2026 lane card the general-goods economy lane is about AUD 8.10 per kilogram, plus a per-parcel fee of roughly AUD 5 for a parcel under 0.3 kg rising to about AUD 10 for a parcel between 3 and 20 kg. Fuel is already inside these figures. Converted at the 7 October 2026 reference rate of 1 AUD = 4.70 RMB.

That structure is why light parcels are cheap and heavy parcels are not: there is no flat rate, and no volumetric weight. China direct bills actual weight on every lane to Australia.

What does it cost by weight?

Reference prices for a general-goods parcel to Melbourne postcode 3000, fuel included, from the China to Australia route page. Economy is 7–12 working days, standard is 4–7 working days (remote postcodes excluded).

0.2 kg: economy AUD 6.94, standard AUD 11.70. 0.5 kg: economy AUD 10.00, standard AUD 14.89. 1 kg: economy AUD 14.26, standard AUD 21.49. 2 kg: economy AUD 22.98, standard AUD 33.83. 3 kg: economy AUD 31.06, standard AUD 44.47. 5 kg: economy AUD 50.85, standard AUD 68.72. 10 kg: economy AUD 91.28, standard AUD 121.91. 20 kg: economy AUD 172.13, standard AUD 228.30.

Apparel has its own economy lane and is slightly cheaper at every weight: AUD 6.89 at 0.2 kg, AUD 14.04 at 1 kg, AUD 30.43 at 3 kg, AUD 49.79 at 5 kg. The select lane (7–12 working days, cheaper per kilogram than standard) stops at 3 kg.

How does that compare with shipping from a Sydney warehouse?

Sydney local fulfilment is priced per order from the August 2026 card and includes storage, putaway, dispatch, packaging and carriage, with fuel at 6.1% of the freight added on top. To the same postcode: Sydney economy AUD 8.43 at 0.2 and 0.5 kg, AUD 9.54 at 1 kg, AUD 10.17 at 2 kg, AUD 13.74 at 5 kg, AUD 26.61 at 10 kg. Sydney standard: AUD 10.20 at 0.2 kg, AUD 11.69 at 1 kg, AUD 15.39 at 5 kg, AUD 22.76 at 10 kg.

So the crossover is around 0.4 kg. Below that, China direct is the cheaper parcel. Above it, Sydney wins on the parcel and the gap widens quickly: at 5 kg the difference is about AUD 37 per order. Sydney stock has to be bought, shipped, cleared and stored in Australia before it earns that saving, which is why most brands keep light and slow-moving SKUs in China and move heavy, steady sellers to Sydney.

What is not in these prices?

China warehouse handling (receiving, storage, pick and pack) is confirmed on the formal quote and is not inside the parcel price. Australian GST on low-value goods (AUD 1,000 or less) is collected at the point of sale by the registered seller or marketplace, not added to the freight. Duty on bulk stock imported to Sydney depends on the product and origin. A remote address, a failed delivery or a signature request can add its own fee.

What are the size and weight limits?

One piece per shipment, minimum 10 × 15 cm. The standard size on the economy and select lanes is up to 59 × 49 × 39 cm and 20 kg (3 kg on select). A parcel up to 105 cm on the longest side and 147 cm length + width + height can still ship, with an oversize fee of RMB 150 (about AUD 31.91) that the calculator adds automatically. Anything larger needs a separate quote, usually by sea freight into the Sydney warehouse.

How do I get a price for my own parcel?

Use the calculator on the China to Australia route page: enter the postcode, weight, dimensions and cargo type (general, apparel or battery) and it returns every lane that can carry the parcel, with the Sydney options beside them. The figures are reference prices from the published cards; the formal quote takes precedence and adds warehouse handling.
